Monsieur Doumani return with a striking new collaboration, teaming up with Cyprus-based producer The Professor and rapper Julisa for a fresh reimagining of “Tiritichtas,” an original composition taken from the band’s critically acclaimed 2021 album Pissourin (Glitterbeat Records).
The track is reshaped through a contemporary hip-hop lens, blending sampled fragments, heavy rhythms and layered textures with the group’s unmistakable Mediterranean sonic identity. Multi-award-winning group Monsieur Doumani, described by The Guardian as “one of the most entertaining, confident and inventive groups in the scene,” were formed in 2012 in Nicosia, Cyprus.
Coming from different musical backgrounds yet deeply influenced by the musical language of Cyprus, the band have forged a singular sound rooted in original songwriting rather than traditional repertoire.
Across their releases — from early folk-inspired explorations to the deep psychedelic and avant-folk direction of their fourth album Pissourin — Monsieur Doumani have continually expanded their sonic vocabulary while remaining unmistakably themselves.
For “Tiritichtas II” the group hand the original material to The Professor, a versatile electronic and experimental music producer and DJ widely associated with Cyprus’ underground scene.
Known for his genre-defying approach, The Professor deconstructs and reconstructs the track using samples, rhythmic edits and hip-hop production techniques, pushing it into a new sonic space. Julisa’s incisive vocal delivery adds a contemporary narrative edge, further transforming the song’s energy and impact.
The result is a dynamic hybrid track that bridges Monsieur Doumani’s distinctive musical world with modern urban expression — bold, forward-looking and rooted in collaboration. “Tiritichtas” stands as a testament to the band’s ongoing evolution and their fearless crossing of musical borders.
