Suggested donation of $20 per individual or family. Located at Co-Prosperity (3219 S. Morgan)
Making Noise is a space to create and receive sound and music in honor of the struggle for survival that people in Gaza are facing; we will collect financial donations for the family of Ahmed, a 24 year old in Gaza, and other families as well. We invite adults, families, and children to gather at Co-Prosperity for an afternoon of sound, play, rest, reflection, mourning, and connection. A fluid cohort of acoustic musicians and vocalists will play in a freely improvised circle that allows them to concentrate their sound intentionally toward a shared center, letting the sound radiate outward in all directions rather than from a stage. Attendees can listen, move about, socialize, rest, reflect, and share space together. The purpose is comfort, connection, honor, rage, mourning, and regenerating hope together.
We honor our collective humanity with all forms of response, and we include people of all ages, to emphasize and sustain our interconnectedness and our need for each other. Younger children will play in a space set aside for shared and homemade games or circulate as they wish. Food and drink will be provided. Donations from the event will be deposited into an emergency fund that is crucial in providing life saving support to families in Gaza. While the ceasefire offers a temporary reprieve, the humanitarian crisis remains dire, and families continue to endure extreme survival conditions. This fund ensures that critical needs – such as food, water, medicine, medical treatments, clothing, and shelter – are met.
This mutual aid fund is being organized in a grassroots manner by Mari Okami and Audrey Sekendur, who are dedicated to ensuring that all donations go directly to several families in need. Despite the ceasefire, the situation on the ground remains unstable, and this emergency fund continues to be a vital lifeline for these families as they fight to survive in this ongoing crisis.
