The Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame (LSHOF) is pleased and proud to announce two new appointments: Marti Cuevas, LSHOF President, and Mauricio Abaroa, Chairman of the newly established ‘Latin Angels‘ La Musa Capital Funding Committee. Former LSHOF President, Delia Orjuela, continues her service in the role of President Emeritus.
The new additions and re-alignment reflect the expansion of responsibilities commensurate with the continuing growth of the Latin Songwriters Hall Of Fame (LSHOF) in membership, activities and stature.
LSHOF Chairman/CEO Rudy Pérez noted: “As co-founders of the Latin Songwriters Hall Of Fame, Chairman Emeritus Desmond Child, and I are delighted to welcome our new President, Marti Cuevas, and ‘Latin Angels’ Chairman, Mauricio Abaroa. Joining forces with us, they will help us continue to build and expand the world’s first organization that truly honors and celebrates the lives and music of Latin music’s greatest songwriters and composers. Both Marti and Mauricio respectively possess the skills that make each ideal choices for the positions they will occupy. After her outstanding leadership as LSHOF President during the last four years, we are thrilled to announce that Delia Orjuela will continue working closely with us in the role of President Emeritus.
Marti Cuevas commented: “I am thrilled and honored to serve as President Of The Latin Songwriters Hall Of Fame. During my entire career in the music business, I have advocated for Latin writers. As President, I hope to be able to contribute much more, including outreach for further education in our complex and confusing digital world.”
Mauricio Abaroa noted: “Having had the opportunity of being by Desmond and Rudy’s side since the Latin Songwriter Hall of Fame was first conceived 12 years ago, has granted me with the possibility of testifying firsthand how these two outstanding songwriters’ dream has evolved into the prestigious and respected organization it is now. It’s with great honor that I’ve accepted their invitation to become the first Chairman of the Latin Songwriters Hall Of Fame’s ‘Latin Angels‘ La Musa Capital Funding Committee. It will be my privilege to support the organization’s mission and objectives, to continue securing its growth, and the implementation of its educational, social, and cultural programs around the world.”
Delia Orjuela acknowledged her new position, stating:
“Everyone who knows me knows how much I value songwriters and what they have given to the world. I am very excited about continuing to work with the LSHOF team who give their all to recognizing the very special achievements of Latin music creators. I will continue to do my best to shine the spotlight on Latin music and raise the profile of the important work of this organization.”
In making these appointments, Rudy and Desmond pointed to the need for more qualified professionals to step up and lend their expertise and experience to the LSHOF organization. They emphasized: “
Marti and Mauricio are the ideal partners to help take us to the next level as they are both highly respected and admired by everyone in our community. We are excited and honored to have leaders of their caliber and energy join us in our noble mission. And Delia has been invaluable to our efforts to date and will continue to be a vital part of our team.”
The LSHOF Executive team currently consists of, in addition to Rudy, Marti and Desmond: Executive Vice President, Karen Sherry; Senior Vice President and Executive Director, Betsy Pérez, Chief Legal Officer, Dario Carnevale, Senior Vice Presidents Claudia Brant, Alexandra Lioutikoff, and Jorge Mejía. The Board of Directors comprises representatives from the major and independent music companies in the Latin music industry as well as music creators of every genre.
The Latin Songwriters Hall Of Fame was co-founded by Rudy Pérez and Desmond Child in 2012 with the mission of educating, preserving and celebrating the legacy of the world’s greatest Latin songwriters and their music and encouraging the development of future generations of songwriters. In addition to its workshops, showcases and scholarships,
the LSHOF established in 2013 its annual Induction and Awards Ceremony, LA MUSA AWARDS, to honor the achievements and songs of Latin music giants (including creators from every part of South America, Brazil, Portugal and Spain. For over a decade has the Latin Songewriters Hall Of Fame has inducted to date some of the greatest names in Latin music.
