Press release
“Miren Para Alla!” [“Look Over There”] seems to say the Alcibiades on duty, pointing to his dog with its tail cut off, while “Cara de nada” witnesses this situation undaunted. They are complementary opposites. Two parts of the same scenario, one capable of diverting the attention of the majority meets the only character they cannot convince, one whom nothing amazes in his apathy. These concepts are developed in the new release of the historic Uruguayan rock band Cuarteto de Nos, who present their double single “Miren Para Allá!”, composed of the songs “El Perro De Alcibíades” and “Cara De Nada.” These are the first previews of the band’s forthcoming and long-awaited new album.
This release came as a surprise: although the communication was focused on a single title, at the time of the premiere, they revealed the two songs that complete “Miren Para Allá!” and that, in the quartet’s opinion, should be released together to develop the concept of this story.
The lyrics of both songs integrate a portrait of social elements that seem to have accompanied societies since their beginnings and that, however, today are current and contemporary: the intentional diversion of attention, the bombardment of superfluous stimuli to hide what is essential, and the saturation that leaves many hidden behind the silence of those who have seen so much that they are no longer interested in understanding anything else.
Both songs are accompanied by illustrated and animated video clips, each with its own aesthetics, that begin to show the visual universe of this new stage of Cuarteto de Nos. The clips preserve the band’s usual irony and rebellious intelligence.
The dog of Alcibiades
The first cut of “Miren Para Allá! Develops, with its powerful sound and disco elements integrated with rock, a story based on a Greek legend. Roberto Musso, singer, main figure, and composer of the songs, tells it this way.
“Alcibiades, an aristocratic ruler who walked around 5th century Athens with a magnificent dog whose sublime demeanor and splendid tail everyone admired, one day inexplicably and whimsically ordered his tail to be amputated, unleashing a great scandal among all the citizens.
For this act, he received a barrage of criticism and reproachful comments, as no one understood why he had taken such a drastic, cruel, and tasteless decision.
Everyone reviled him, but he, very calm and smiling, commented to those close to him that, while people were talking about the amputation of his tail, he did not notice worse things concerning his government that, with this strategy of distraction as a smokescreen, managed to go unnoticed”.
Face of Nothing
In the second cut, a character who does not make a single gesture that gives him away” and lives behind a mask that serves as a refuge is presented. This is how Roberto Musso describes him:
“Cara de nada” is tired, bored, and fed up with seeing cut tails in countless situations, but this saturation and his contained emotions are processed inside without affecting the immutable features of his face. He is indifferent to smoke or fire; he can no longer distinguish between the two, let alone look the other way, because, at this point of his disenchantment, the effects of the severed tails of any dog end up slipping into his indifference. Alcibiades’ ruse doesn’t work with “Face of Nothing,” and neither of them cares.
