Press Release
“Chi Tea” by Lester Rey featuring Heavy Crownz will debut on Friday, Jan. 6 followed by a celebratory performance at Penny Whistle in Pilsen.
Fresh off his latest single, “Jardin” (Garden), the Humboldt Park-born, percussionist Lester Rey taps on the Englewood, recording artist Heavy Crownz to create an infectious dance groove that is set to bring Chicago some much-needed warmth this winter on Dia de Los Reyes, January 6.
Lester sets his intentions for the new year with a party anthem that reminds his community…
“Everything gonna be aight, we gonna be just fine.”
The music, created by MoonDoctoR, brings elements of juke, reggaeton, hip-hop, and pop to the versatile lyrical stylings of both Lester Rey and Heavy Crownz. Both lyricists use plant life, farming, and gardens as tools to share the lessons of growth in their respective lanes; such as with songs by Lester Rey like “Santuario” featuring Ric Wilson and the recent “Jardin.”
Heavy’s discography includes titles such as “Grow Sumn,” “Garden Lessons” ft Freddie Old Soul, his single “Planting,” and his most recent tape WHOLE LOTTA SEEDZ. It’s safe to say that these two artists are planting seeds and building bridges to inspire and bring together communities on the dance floor- with “Chi Tea” being the first sip.
About Lester Rey
Lester Rey is an ethereal Latin Soul singer who brings “chanteo,” a popular reggaeton flow with fast melody and rhythm, to his productions. The music strips down familial Caribbean rhythms and combines them with the modern sounds he has observed in his upbringing in Chicago.
Listed on NPR World Cafe on “Latin Roots: The Best Alternative songs of 2019 and on Chicago’s very own Vocalo radio “Live from Studio 10: Our 20 favorite performances of the decade,” Lester Rey has spent the last few years taking his sound to a national and international audience called Juketeo, developed in collaboration with producer MoonDoctoR. Catch him sharing his Latin soulful tones over sultry ritmos or setting the dancefloor on fire with innovative flows.
About Heavy Crownz
Heavy Crownz is a recording artist, community servant, and creative director. Hailing from the Englewood neighborhood on the south side of Chicago, he has one purpose for his music; to plant seeds of positive thought in the minds of his listeners. With a raspy voice, shifty effortless flow, and unique sense of style, Heavy’s sound is agricultural; forever promoting growth and beauty in it.
Heavy’s most recent works are the latest singles “Garden Lessons” feat Freddie Old Soul , his single “planting” , and being a supporting act for the rap duo Mother Nature’s most recent national tour following the release of their mixtape “SZNZ”. His next upcoming tape “WHOLE LOTTA SEEDZ” has captured his most recent lessons in growth. Every song or new venture successfully encapsulates Heavy’s walk through life’s garden. Growing one seed at a time.
Release Event: Juketeo: Dia de los Reyes, January 6th, 10pm-2am at The Giant Pennywhistle in Pilsen, Chicago. The MC of the night will be Queen B, with performances by DJ Kinginesse, Lester Rey, Heavy Crownz, and more!
