The internationally recognized Brazilian band debuts a new psychedelic release titled
Noise Meditations
The Brazilian band BIKE just debuted their sixth album, Noise Meditations. Along with the digital release, there is also a vinyl edition. The band sought to decentralize the release from major streaming platforms by making the album available first on Bandcamp.
With international recognition and regarded as a reference in the new psychedelia, the quartet gathered to make music without a script, playing for hours in the studio. That’s how the songs of this album were born—inviting the audience to meditate amidst the chaos.
Noise Meditations, the new album from BIKE, was born from jam sessions among the band members at Wasabi Studio in São José dos Campos – the group’s hometown. Armed with bass, drums, guitars, synthesizers, and percussion, the quartet — a key name in Brazil’s new psychedelic scene — gathered to make music without a script. “We played for hours with nothing planned, and from that came the songs that make up the new album,” says Julio Cavalcante, vocalist and guitarist.
The album’s concept is right in the title: “The idea was to create a sound guided by noise and drones, accompanied by repetitive beats and percussion to evoke the feeling of music for meditating in chaos. We wrote short lyrics that stick in your head like small mantras,” Julio explains. Influences on Noise Meditations include Indian music, krautrock, jazz, Sonic Youth, Pedro Santos, and the Paêbiru album – a classic from Brazilian psychedelic music.
In late September, BIKE will head to the UK to present the album in four cities.
