From their website: “PILSEN FEST will take place in Chicago on September 17 and 18, 2022, in the Pilsen neighborhood. This outdoor festival will feature renowned musical acts drawing an attendance of over 30,000 people. The objective of the Festival is to celebrate and embrace diversity, solidarity and unity.
Every year Pilsen Fest works with a particular unique artist. We feature their artwork throughout the Pilsen Fest. We are excited to introduce you to Pilsen Fest 2022 featured artist Gabriel Villa.
GABRIEL VILLA is a Chicago-based artist born and raised in the border region of El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juárez, México. Villa’s career consists of painting, drawing, ceramics, and numerous public murals. Villa’s inspiration comes from his Mexican-American traditions and Chicago’s South Side culture.
Villa’s exhibition records include The Hyde Park Art Center, Sullivan Galleries at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Centro De Artes Museum in San Antonio, Texas, and School of Architecture, Art and Design at American University in Dubai.
Villa did a Jackman Goldwasser Artist in Residency at Hyde Park Art Center. Each year, the Residency provides a platform for international, national, and local artists and curators to take creative risks and expand professional networks in the context of a historic, community-rooted art space in the heart of Chicago.
Villa is also a core member of Pilsen Housing Cooperative, an anti-displacement effort started by Latinx artists and community residents in response to gentrification en el barrio.”
