Argentine rock legend Fito Páez presents “Superextraño” the second single from his eagerly anticipated forthcoming album, Novela alongside the tracklist for the 25-track project. The single is accompanied by an original lyric video designed and produced by Cornáscavia Estudio and produced by Antiestático //watch here//.
The earworm chorus and layered arrangement on the new single “Superextraño” pays homage to Páez’s classic sound while embracing a modern, polished production in theme with the project’s circus setting.
The release follows the first release from the album, “Cuando el circo llega al pueblo,” which translates to “when the circus comes to town”); a track that welcomes audiences into Novela’s immersive world. An explosion of saturated colors and whimsical characters in the video amplifies the magic of the music with a dazzling array of surreal imagery and dreamlike settings.
On “Superextraño,” the 12th song on the 25-track project, the ‘Novela’ story continues when the protagonists Jimmy and Loka see each other for the first time. It sets the stage for the most intense moments of this incredible story – advancing the narration between moments of darkness and the development of the characters. Everyone knows something they don’t say. Enhancing the uncertainty about the secrets of characters Jok, Julius, Loka’s mom, and desire, Maldivia and Turbialuz accomplish their initial goal: Jimmy and Loka crossing paths. And as it is the moment where love should awaken, with the two witches flying while surrounding the couple, other turbulent scenes, with doubts and mistrust, are ahead.
The 25-track album Novela which translates to Novel, is a great musical oeuvre that the Argentine icon Fito Páez began writing in 1988, finished writing in 2024, and will finally see the light on March 27th, 2025. The album tells a magical story with original characters of rebellious and passionate spirit. The scenario is a particular town in Santa Fe, Argentina; where a freak circus arrives and revolutionizes the lives of its inhabitants. Composed by Fito Páez and produced by Paez himself, Gustavo Borner and Diego Olivero, recorded between Abbey Road, London and Sony Music Studios 5020 Madrid Novela is a work of art with infinite dimensions that will not leave anyone indifferent.
Known for his monumental contributions to Latin rock music, Fito Páez blends jangle-pop guitar lines with punchy percussion and a lush wash of vocal harmonies, delivering a track that bridges the past and present. With a career spanning over four decades, Páez’s achievements include timeless hits like “El Amor Después del Amor” and “Mariposa Tecknicolor,” 11 Latin GRAMMY awards, and many sold-out world tours. His story began in Rosario, where he formed the band SUMA and played with legends like Charly García and Luis Alberto Spinetta. Over the years, Páez has continually reshaped his artistry, experimenting with rock, jazz, tango, and folk on chart-topping albums like Abre Paez and Circo Beat.
THE STORY OF THE ALBUM ‘NOVELA’
The story begins in Prix University, where two witch students, Maldivina and Turbialuz -brilliant, although picaresque-, must fulfill a mission as a test/punishment, dictated by the rector of the place, the evil Rectitud Martirius: to find the perfect love in Villa Constitución, small town where the whole imaginary of the story takes place. There they meet Loka, the daughter of the owner of a poor traveling circus. And Jimmy, an orphan boy who has a rock band and lives with his aunt Charo. From now on, the story concentrates on a parade of charming characters, who run parallel to the exposition of Turbialuz and Maldivina’s acts, as they seek to concretize the bond between Loka and Jimmy. Fantastic adventures, cabarets, disturbing mobs. Neighbors, darks and freaks. Characters with anguish, tragedies, lights and shadows, who go through their days in the limit between a town and a poor circus that defines the antagonism and the staging of everyday life and its reaction to supernatural events that constantly occur, among them, the appearance of love.
