Chicago surfy indie-rock band Impulsive Hearts shared their third album Fit 4 The Apocalypse earlier this year via legendary indie-rock label Cavity Search Records (Elliott Smith, Helio Sequence).
Frontwoman Danielle Sines directed a surreal music video for the album’s title track that she shot in northern Michigan. Recently nominated in the Chicago Reader for both best local rock band and best local album, I wanted to share the new video with you in case you’d consider the band’s music this year before the new year.
Danielle said, “Filmed between Chicago and in the woods of northern Michigan, it was incredible to direct this psychedelic fever dream of a music video. My lifelong friend played the bunny and chased me around the woods for hours to get the right shot! It was so fun to bring the video to life and seeing the band’s vision like this was so fun.”
As a staple in the Chicago music scene for the past decade, Impulsive Hearts has received plenty of local acclaim across their body of work. Jessica Hopper wrote in the Chicago Tribune before that Danielle’s “songs are studies in contrast, sweet melodies and then distortion and rage.” While open for interpretation, Sines wrote the record after the pandemic began (her second album came out just before), reflecting those quieter and lonelier days in the lyrics where she sings “gonna get real fit for the apocalypse / gonna stay in bed gonna dream instead.”
Impulsive Hearts will also be closing out the year with one last show for locals at Burlington Bar on Sat, 12/21 with Moon Mannequin and Same Waves.
