Puerto Rican star iLe (@cabralu) has released the new single “Me Hiciste Quedar Mal.” The song was produced by iLe and Ismael Cancel with the Argentine producer Tatool – renowned for his work with Trueno and Nicki Nicole.
“This song is about that moment when you feel foolish because you realize that the person you dedicated your life with, wasn’t as great as you thought they were and is simply not worthy of you,” iLe explains. “This song is about breaking with the toxic pattern of conformity in a relationship.”
“Me Hiciste Quedar Mal” is accompanied by an official video directed by César Berríos. “The video is a way of showing the mixed feelings that flourish from a bad breakup,” iLe shares. “She tries to let go of emotions that might feel contradictory but at the same time they make so much sense. Letting go is a hard process – it is so important to acknowledge and take the reins of your feelings instead of wasting time trying to ignore them.”
The new single follows a busy summer for iLe as she toured across Europe and performed shows from New York’s Lincoln Center to Los Angeles’ Grand Performances. Last month, iLe traveled to Quito to play at the Ecuador Jazz Festival.
“Me Hiciste Quedar Mal” is iLe’s first solo single since the release of her acclaimed album ‘Nacarile.’ ‘Nacarile‘ was an expansive and imaginative project which drew on iLe’s affinity for classic Latin American traditions as well as new genres, collaging astral synths, irreverent art pop, and prismatic melodies. The album included the Latin GRAMMY-winning single “En Cantos (feat. Natalia Lafourcade)” and was spotlighted as The New York Times #5 “Best Album of 2022.”
