The most authentic self seems to emerge from being vulnerable, honest, and unafraid to dig deeper. This self-reflective journey has been captured in Natalia Lafourcade‘s most recent album, De Todas Las Flores. She begins her tour this week and will perform at Ravinia Festival on Saturday, July 22. Details and tickets are here.
We recently connected with Natalia and shared a lovely conversation featured on Lumpen Radio (105.5FM, WLPN, Chicago).
Stephanie Manriquez and I begin the conversation by asking Natalia about the journey she embarked upon, one in which she travels through an abundance of emotions as a process of self-reflection and a return to herself, a place she felt she had left behind. In De Todas Las Flores Natalia shares those moments, the sadness, grief, and solitude, along with the joy, the power, and hope.
Natalia isn’t just one flower, she is the angiosperms that germinate the lush gardens presented in De Todas Las Flores.
Along with the intimacy she delves into during our conversation, Natalia also shares the process of working with Adan Jodorowsky, who produced this new work, and the musicians joining her on this unique tour.
Originally from Veracruz, Natalia Lafourcade is a contemporary musical artist, singer, composer, and producer. Throughout her nearly 20-year career she has been part of countless musical projects and award-winning albums such as Casa (with La Forquetina), Mujer Divina: Homenaje a Agustín Lara, Hasta la Raíz, Musas: A Tribute to Latin American Folklore in the Hands of Los Macorinos and Un canto por Mexico.
Natalia recently returned to the studio to record her own unreleased songs for a new album titled De Todas las Flores.
As part of this new musical universe, she also launched “De Todas Las Flores, el podcast” which includes thoughtful conversations with special guests about each of the songs on the new album.
She presented live for the first time, at a concert at New York’s historic Carnegie Hall, a musical diary about her experiences over the last few years accompanied by David Byrne, Omara Portuondo, and Jorge Drexler.
This year she begins her new tour De Todas las Flores. She will be near Chicago performing at Ravinia Festival on Saturday, July 22.
