The Latin GRAMMY nominees’ new album, La Danza, is available now on Six Degrees Records.
The pioneering Afro-Peruvian sound system NOVALIMA is proud to celebrate its 20th anniversary with an upcoming U.S. tour kicking off on August 3rd in Los Angeles. On October 9 they perform at the Indigenous Peoples Day Festival in Chicago.
About La Danza
On La Danza, the worldwide ambassadors of the new afro-peruvian sound, Novalima, continues to explore the ever-evolving soundscapes of the global African diaspora with the concept that life is a dance that constantly evolves. Conceived during 2020-2021 lockdowns La Danza, broken out into 2 parts will be 9 songs in total written about life, time, and making the most of it; and about healing, hope and willingness to thrive no matter the circumstances. On La Danza they collaborated with a new generation of artists who’ve reinterpreted their African Heritage, while sonically they experimented with both emerging sounds coming out of Peru and the world, all while paying homage to their African heritage as well as traditional African grooves and instruments.
The new album features several international guest musicians including Paulina Sotomayor “Pahua” (Mex); Dom La Nena (Bra/Fra); Pablo Watussi and Eka Munoz (Col); La Dame Blanche (Cuba). And from Peru they feature works from Oscar Aviles Jr, La Mamba, Pudy Ballumbosio, Sofia Buitron, and Miki Gonzales, a Peruvian rock Legend that was the first to incorporate the cajon to modern rhythms back in the early 80s.
Novalima Tour 2023
Novalima is thrilled to be back on the road to celebrate with their fans stating, “We’ve been aiming to export Peruvian culture through our music over the past 20 years, and so far we’ve been blessed by playing all over the world and meeting new great artists, who’ve somehow inspired our growth in music and our own artistic evolution. We are proud to be able to still be on the road with our family: our amazing live band, and this year we plan to take over new audiences to spread even more our music to younger crowds through our live concerts, which will be an exhilarating dance experience.”
