Mariachi at the White House! Why not?
Camila Cabello and Mariachi Herencia de México joined a star-studded list of performers for PBS’ In Performance at The White House: Spirit of the Season on Tuesday — for a new mariachi rendition of “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.”
Julia Garner and Jill Biden introduced Cabello, 24, and the young mariachi band for their performance from the Grand Foyer as Cabello rocked an all-red jumpsuit and matching gloves.
The Latin GRAMMY®-nominated Mariachi Herencia de México, comprised of young Mexican-American musicians from Chicago, performed a masterful mariachi arrangement of the Christmas classic, stunning in beautiful black trajes de charro.
Among the other performers were Eric Church, Jonas Brothers, Norah Jones, Pentatonix, Billy Porter, along with Andrea Bocelli and his children Matteo and Virginia.
“What an honor to perform at the White House and to represent so many Mexicans, Mexican-Americans and all Latinos that live in this country,” says Marco A. Villela, 18, trumpet player with Mariachi Herencia de México.
“It was incredible to join the beautiful and talented Camila Cabello in honoring our Mexican heritage,” adds Villela. “It just makes you feel so proud and thankful.”
