2 MINUTOS continue releasing songs that are going to form part of their upcoming album for their 35th anniversary as a band. Now it’s “YA NO SOS IGUAL”’s turn to be in the spotlight, a classic of all classics.
If Argentinean (and Latin American) punk rock had to choose an anthem representative of the genre, “YA NO SOS IGUAL” would without a doubt rise as an undisputed submission. It’s the story of Carlos, a kid that stopped going to the bar and going to the soccer field with his friends in order to patrol the city and bother people at night. The clear difference between the team t-shirt and the police uniform.
This 2022 35th anniversary version of “YA NO SOS IGUAL” features the collaboration and great performance of Campino, lead singer of the German band Die Toten Hosen, who takes over the song with his trademark energy. It also features the collaboration and freshness of Trueno, who adds more of a hood vibe to the song (if it can even be done) to this timeless anthem.
“YA NO SOS IGUAL” was recorded in May 2022 by Edu Pereyra at Romaphonic and Alejandro Vázquez at El Parral. The music video was directed by Octavio Lovisolo, who upon filming the band recording the material in their studio, added live images from 2 Minutos’ presentation of “Mosca” with Die Toten Hosen during their last visit to Argentina where they performed the song together. In addition, the participation of Trueno, who added his improvisation from Mexico, was also documented for the video. All of this content was accompanied by archival images of police repression in the street of Buenos Aires.
